When Sita was cursed by the sage Durvasa, Lord Rama came to Gaya to perform Pind Daan for his father, King Dasharatha. While Rama went to bathe in the Falgu River, he told his attendant (and Sita, in disguise) to guard the Pind (rice balls). When Rama returned, the Pind had vanished, and a cow was licking the spot. In anger, Rama struck the cow. At that moment, the spirit of Dasharatha appeared, declaring that Gaya was so holy that any Pind offered here instantly reaches the ancestor, bypassing all celestial bureaucracy.
